Permits

Before beginning any home improvement, residents are required to take out the appropriate permit.  When in doubt, contact City Hall.

All businesses and residences are required to secure a building permit prior to the start of any project to ensure compliance with city ordinance.

Iowa Code Chapter 103 mandates that anyone installing, altering, or repairing electrical wiring must hold a state-issued credential, except for certain homeowner exemptions on their principal residence.   Permits are required for virtually all electrical work, and compliance with the current edition of the National Electrical Code (2023 NEC) is mandatory.

Electrical permits can be obtained online through the Iowa Electrical Examining Board portal at iowaelectrical.gov 

Residents and Businesses within the city limits are required to get a heating permit prior to installing or replacing HVAC systems

Residents wishing to travel on city streets using a golf cart are required to get a permit.  The cost of the permit is $20 per year.  Permits issued are valid from January 1 - December 31; the fee is not prorated or refundable.
